Dear friends!

Yesterday we got a new information about a Red-crowned crane and a White-naped crane from Bastak reserve. The cranes we released into the wild on the last year.

Two birds were met neat to Birobidjan city (Jewish region, about 500 km Eastern from Khingansky reserve) in a village Voskresenovka.

The Red-crowned crane has got a ring 5C2, the egg from Cincinnati Zoo, name Alim, male. The White-naped crane - 5A4 from Birmingham Zoo, name Medeya, female.

Last year we released the cranes into the wild and in July 2005 Dr. S.M. Smirensky saw a group cranes (a Red-crowned crane and two White-naped cranes) with white colors rings near Muraviovka Park (that is 240 km western from Khingansky reserve). We think he saw the 5C2, 5A4 and other our crane. Now 5C2 and 5A4 after wintering observed another place. The cranes went to people for helping because the White-naped crane broke the bill and can not feed herself. People from the village give some foods to cranes and called to Bastak reserve. Now we were taken our cranes to the Station. The Red-crowned crane we will release again in the Khingansky reserve and the White-naped crane will treat the bill and maybe autumn or the next spring releasing in the wild.

So, I think we have a lot returning releasing cranes after wintering every year but we can see cranes but only rare cases as for example in the year: crane had trauma and went to people; other two cranes went to the summer camp on the calling them parents. In another cases to see releasing cranes into the wild very difficult and so difficult to read a number of a ring.

Please, pass the information about successful releasing them cranes to Cincinnati Zoo and Birmingham Zoo so I nave no them e-mail address.

Thank you very much for collaborations.

Sincerely you, Rimma Andronova
